Tomato & Bacon 'Spaghetti Hoops' On Toast

Go old school with this teatime fave. You'll stir macaroni into a rich tomato sauce before piling it onto crispy garlic bread and melting over plenty of cheddar cheese. Serve up with a fresh balsamic salad and dig in.

Cooking instructions

Instructions for 2 [for 3] [for 4] portion recipe.

1

Before you begin...

Get all your ingredients and equipment ready

Skim through these steps, then wash your fruit and veg

Note: Equipment and pan sizes vary. Make sure you cook food thoroughly (even if it takes you a little longer than 10 min)

Step 1
2

Now, let's get started!

Boil a kettle

Heat a large, wide-based pan (preferably non-stick) with a small drizzle of vegetable oil over a medium-high heat

Once hot, add your bacon lardons and cook for 5-6 min or until golden and crisp

Step 2
3

Meanwhile, add your pasta to a pot of boiled water and bring to the boil over a high heat

Cook the pasta for 7-9 min or until cooked with a slight bite

Once done, drain the pasta, reserving a cup of the starchy pasta water

Step 3
4

Grate half your garlic (you'll use the rest later!) and add it to the bacon for 1 min or until fragrant

Add your chopped tomatoes, tomato paste, dried oregano, bay leaf[ves], 1 tsp [1 1/2 tsp] [2 tsp] sugar, a pinch of salt and your ground paprika, and cook for 2-3 min

Step 4
5

While your sauce is cooking, slice your ciabatta[s] in half and place in the toaster for 1-2 min or until warmed through

Step 5
6

Add your soft cheese and cooked pasta to the pan and stir it all together – this is your tomato & bacon 'spaghetti hoops'

Tip: Add a splash of starchy pasta water if it's looking a little dry

Step 6
7

Grate your cheddar cheese

Wash your salad, then pat dry with kitchen paper

Rub the remaining garlic on the toasted ciabatta – this is your toast

Tip: Add a small knob of butter to your toast for a more indulgent meal

Step 7
8

Serve the tomato & bacon 'spaghetti hoops' on top of the toast and sprinkle over the grated cheese

Serve the salad to the side with a drizzle of olive oil and your balsamic vinegar

Enjoy!
