Preheat the oven to 200°C/ 180°C (fan)/ gas 6

Tip: If using an air fryer, preheat the air fryer to 160°C/180°C

Boil a full kettle

Remove all packaging and foil from your Higgidy steak pie[s]

Add the Higgidy steak pie[s] to a baking tray

Put the tray in the oven for 18-22 min or until the pie is golden and cooked through

Tip: If using an air fryer bake at 160°C for 15-20 mins!

Meanwhile, peel and chop your potatoes into bite-sized pieces

Add the chopped potatoes to a pot with plenty of boiled water and bring to the boil over a high heat

Once boiling, reduce the heat to medium and cook for 12-15 min or until fork-tender

Grate your cheddar cheese finely

Once the potatoes are tender, drain and return to the pot to steam dry

Return the potatoes to a low heat with a small knob of butter, a splash of milk and the grated cheddar cheese

Season with a pinch of salt and pepper and mash until smooth – this is your cheddar mash

Reboil a kettle

Combine your gravy base with 100ml [150ml] [200ml] boiled water in a heatproof jug, whisk thoroughly

Put the gravy mix in the microwave and cook for 1 min or until thickened

Give everything a good mix up (careful it may be hot!) – this is your gravy

Add your blanched peas to a colander and pour boiled water all over to refresh them

Serve the Higgidy steak & ale pie with the cheddar mash and peas to the side

Drizzle over the gravy
