Cooking instructions

Instructions for 2 [for 3] [for 4] portion recipe.

1.

Before you begin...

Get all your ingredients and equipment ready

Skim through these steps, then wash your fruit and veg

Note: Equipment and pan sizes vary. Make sure you cook food thoroughly (even if it takes you a little longer than 10 min)

Step 1
2.

Heat a large, wide-based pan (preferably non-stick) with a drizzle of vegetable oil over a medium heat

Once hot, crumble your meat-free patty[ies] into the pan and cook for 1-2 min or until starting to brown

Step 2
3.

Boil half a kettle

Meanwhile, slice your red onion[s]

Add 3/4 of the sliced onion to the pan and cook for a further 5-6 min or until the burgers are cooked through and lightly charred

Step 3
4.

Add half of your red wine vinegar (you'll use the rest later!) with a pinch of sugar and a splash of boiled water to a small bowl

Add the remaining onions to the bowl and set aside to pickle – this is your quick-pickled onion

Step 4
5.

Chop your tomato[es] roughly

Wash your lettuce, then pat it dry with kitchen paper and roughly shred

Wash your salad and pat it dry with kitchen paper

Step 5
6.

Combine your mustard ketchup, mayo and the remaining vinegar in a large bowl with a pinch of salt – this is your burger sauce salad dressing

Step 6
7.

Add the shredded lettuce, salad and chopped tomato[es] to the bowl and toss – this is your dressed salad

Step 7
8.

Drain the quick-pickled onion, discard the liquid

Serve the dressed salad at the bottom of a bowl, top with the cooked meat-free burger and the quick-pickled onion

Dollop your sweet pepper relish over the top and garnish with your toasted sesame seeds and crispy onions

Enjoy!
