Cooking instructions

1.

Preheat the oven to 220ºC/ 200ºC (fan)/ gas 7 and boil a little water in a kettle

Cut your potatoes (skins on) into chips

Add the chips to one side of a baking paper-lined baking tray (or two!) with a drizzle of vegetable oil and a small pinch of salt and pepper

Step 1
2.

Add your hot dog sausage[s] to the other side of the baking tray[s] and put the tray[s] in the oven for 25 min or until the sausage[s] is cooked through (no pink meat!) and the chips are golden and crispy

Step 2
3.

Peel and finely chop your shallot[s]

Dice your cucumber finely

Tip: Cooking for kids? Cut half the cucumber into rounds and leave plain!

Step 3
4.

Add the chopped shallot and diced cucumber to a bowl with your cider vinegar and 1 tbsp [1 1/2 tbsp] [2 tbsp] boiled water

Season with a pinch of salt and sugar and give everything a good mix up – these are your pickles

Step 4
5.

Wash your lettuce, then pat it dry with kitchen paper and shred finely

Step 5
6.

Cut a slit into the top of your hot dog bun[s]

Once the chips are nearly done, add the cut hot dog bun[s] to a separate baking tray, cut side up, and put the tray in the oven for 2-3 min or until warmed through

Step 6
7.

To build, add the cooked hot dog sausage to the warmed hot dog bun and top with a spoonful of the pickles (you'll use the rest later!)

Drizzle over your mustard ketchup and tomato ketchup – this is your classic hot dog

Tip: Cooking for kids? Leave off the pickles and mustard ketchup!

Step 7
8.

Serve the classic hot dog with the chips and shredded lettuce to the side

Top the shredded lettuce with the remaining pickles

Tip: Cooking for kids? Leave the pickles off the salad and serve the cucumber rounds to the side!

Enjoy!
